Unit 1 - Design for Craft
This unit provides a practical introduction to the skills and knowledge needed to begin the design process for craft. It aims to assess the ability to use a range of materials and mediums, based on a personal approach, in order to understand the visual implications of the design process.

Unit 2 - Fashion Wear
Fashion:
Investigate current trends,
Research designers,
Designing,
Working from a template,
Presentation,
Use of different media,
Use of colour,
& Templates.
Tools & Equipment:
Essential Tools and Equipment,
Safety in Your Sewing Space,
& Haberdashery.
Techniques:
Pattern Cuttings & Pattern Lays.
SEAMS
Open seam neatened (zig-zag/overlock, clean finish, bound), welt seam, French, mock French, crossed (open, French, welt) for facings (stitched, clipped, layered, understitched).
FASTENINGS
Zips (semi-concealed, concealed, open end), buttons and
buttonholes (machine made, piped /bound) hooks, loops, studs, hook and loop tape.
HEMS
narrow machined, blind hem hand and machine stitched, pleat hem – stitched/joined.
POCKETS
Patch (lined and unlined), flap, jetted, welt, in-seam, safari.
SUPPRESSION
Gathers – double row machine-made, zig-zag over narrow cord, shirring, single and double point darts, dart tuck, tucks – pin, twin needle, spaced, cross tucks, pleats.
BANDS
Stiffened waistband applied to a sample waistline.
COLLARS
Simple collar applied to half of a small scale bodice.
EMBELLISHMENT
Top stitching, braid and lace application, lace insertion, fabric paint.

Tuition for classes is £20 per guided learning hour, this covers your guided learning hours for the course, costs of some course materials, use of tools and machines, assessment, internal verification and external verification.
